Teresa Azcona appointed managing director of the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster

Teresa Azcona joins the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster as Managing Director of this association, which brings together companies, entities, and public and private institutions connected to the audiovisual activities in Madrid. Azcona, an economist with an extensive background in the financial and audiovisual sectors, will contribute her experience to this network, whose main objective is to develop an ecosystem that promotes business growth, innovation, and international collaboration. “I am delighted to join as Managing Director of the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, an initiative that serves as a driving force for the development of the audiovisual industry, not only in Madrid but across Spain. I’m excited by its vision of becoming a key entity capable of generating synergies among the various players in the sector, fostering job creation, local talent, and international projection. The Board has done an excellent job over the past few months, and by contributing my experience, I will focus on driving the strategic plan forward, as well as adding value to the Cluster’s members and the sector,” emphasised Teresa Azcona.

The economist, an expert in the financial and audiovisual sectors, joins this association, which brings together more than 75 companies and public and private entities that play a significant role in the development and future of Madrid’s audiovisual sector, strengthening the city’s audiovisual ecosystem through business promotion, innovation, and international collaboration.

With broad experience in both the public and private sectors, Teresa Azcona stands out for her decades-long career in the financial sector, where she was a partner and CEO of a venture capital firm, and since 2016, in the audiovisual sector. In this field, she has led the public broadcasting corporation of Aragón and has served as both Vice President and General Director of the Spain Film Commission. Madrid: A Stronghold in the Audiovisual Sector Madrid has emerged as a key epicentre for audiovisual activities in Spain. With more than 32.05% of active companies dedicated to this sector (according to CNAE 59 and 60; INE, 2020), it accounts for 75.89% of the total business turnover (€7.329 billion) and employs 41.26% of the workforce (27,513 people).

The recently established Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, formalised on 30 March 2023 with the support of the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council, and chaired by Raúl Berdonés, has a clear and innovative vision for the sector: to strengthen the audiovisual industry in the region. To achieve this, it aims to support existing companies and encourage new projects, create an integrated ecosystem that promotes business opportunities, innovation, and employment, and boost international events in the capital.
Structure of the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster

To accomplish these objectives, the cluster is organised into thematic committees responsible for implementing the strategic plan’s projects and directives. This structure aims to consolidate collaboration among businesses, institutions, universities, and associations, generating economic benefits and synergies for all involved. The current Board of Directors of the Cluster is composed of twelve committees, each led by a member of the association:

∙ Project Committee (EGEDA).

∙ Production Committee (AMA).

∙ Economic Affairs Committee (Crea SGR).

∙ Distribution and Audiences Committee (Asociación PROXIMA).

∙ Public Management and Institutional Communication Committee (AECINE).

∙ Internationalisation Committee (Iberseries & Platino Industria).

∙ Training Committee (Complutense University of Madrid).

∙ Promotion and Festivals Committee (MATRIZ Madrid Festivals Network).

∙ Production Services Committee (Association of Audiovisual Production Professionals – APPA).

∙ Innovation and Technology Committee (Telefónica Audiovisual Digital, SLU – MovistarPlus+).

∙ Animation and VFX Committee (Pixel Cluster).

∙ Sustainability Committee (Mrs Greenfilm).

The Cluster is strengthening its organisational structure, as well as its thematic committees, to work tirelessly towards positioning Madrid as a reference point in the Spanish and international audiovisual landscape.
